[ Chloe is absolutely not surprised that Anna's house is so fucking big. She's a princess. Of course she'd end up on Princess Drive with a Princess Sized Mansion that looks like it could house half the town for a sleepover. She did spend a couple of minutes staring up at the place though, admiring the architecture and also hating that it exists because fuck rich people wasted their money on so many things.
Shaking her head, she makes her way inside like Anna had told her to do anytime she wanted, looking around for the human ball of sunshine and finding all the common rooms empty. Wouldn't it be her luck to show up while they were out? She had texted, but that had been like an hour ago. She's not very good at knowing how to show up anywhere in a timely manner.
She finally spots her out by the pool through a set of large glass doors and goes to push them open, bag slung over her shoulder. Her steps slow significantly when she notices she's not paying attention, head tilting before she follows her gaze to see what's caught her interest.
Seeing Kristoff not too far away, busy working on converting some structure into a proper barn. It being the middle of one of the warmer days September had given them, she's not surprised to see that he's opted for much less shirt than she had seen him in thus far. Chloe couldn't help but smirk.
She makes sure to drop herself loudly into the chair next to Anna, immediately crossing one leg over the other and resting her elbow on her knee, her chin in her hand. ]
[ The house meant little to Anna. She would have been just as happy in a small shack if Kristoff was there. What was important to her was her family, and though two of them were missing it just made her hold tighter to what she did have.
The day was extremely warm, warmer than she'd even expect it in Arendelle this time of year. Her own dresses mostly felt pretty heavy, but luckily she had one of two lighter ones to choose from. She was almost envious of people like Chloe, who looked pretty cool in their outfits, modern as they were.
She and Kristoff had taken the afternoon hot, too tired of sweating over boiling pots. To be fair, Anna really wasn't used to work like that and she was desperate for the break. And if it came with the wonderful view of watching Kristoff work on Sven's barn, well that was just the icing on the cake.
Being caught by someone while staring at her future husband was definitely an embarrassing thing though, and her cheeks flushed as she jumped a bit and realized that now she had an audience. ]
Oh! Chloe! It's just you. Obvious about what? Oh wait...where are my manners. Hi! Please sit down. But seriously? Obvious about what?
[ Despite the luxury of being able to do the opposite, Chloe still ended up wearing far more covering clothing that she had back home. She'd braved shorts for today, the heavy scars on her legs apparently not feeling quite as embarrassing as the rest of them, but she still wore a hoodie pulled over her tanktop, making sure to keep it zipped up to the neck. It didn't hide the ones that creeped up her throat or the ones on her face, but at least it kept her torso covered.
She's chuckling already at the way that Anna startles, shifting in her seat to kick her feet up onto the poolside table, looking over to Kristoff for a moment with her brow arched, before her gaze moves back to the princess beside her. ]
Your thirst, girl. [ There's a moment where she remembers she'll probably have no idea what it means. ] In the 21st century, we'd say you're staring at your boy like he's the only drink of water around.
[ Anna finds the way Chloe talks a little confusing. She has all these words for things that are words Anna knows well, but she uses them in ways that Anna doesn't fully understand. It's as if she's talking in constant metaphor and Anna has to think a bit harder to figure out what she might mean by something. It can be a little embarrassing to feel lost in the language of things and she suddenly has a new appreciation for how Kristoff feels with his education so much different than her own. She silently decides she owes him an apology later.
Thankfully Chloe also seems to catch her up on the lingo regularly, but even her explanations aren't always things she fully grasps. For a moment she wonders why she'd be staring at Kristoff like he was a drink of water. At least her brain works in some obscure ways and as she puts together "thirst" and "only drink of water" a blush crawls over her as she realizes what she might mean by that.
And when she becomes sure what Chloe is insinuating, her eyes widen and she looks completely embarrassed and flustered. ]
Oh. Oh! Uh...maybe...yeah. I mean he's...gorgeous, so it's uhm...easy to look at him. [ And think about how much she wishes they were already married, because propriety is the only thing stopping her and even that's only being held back by a thread at this point. ]
[ She grins when Anna finally catches up, clearly amused by the way that she reacts to it. She remembers the days when she used to get flustered by even the slightest implications towards sex. A time of innocence... That was broken very, very quickly, unfortunately. ]
Yeah, I guess he does have that uh... aesthetic appeal a lot of chicks are into.
[ ........... How had she ever thought she was straight? ]
[ There was another one of those words she wasn't used to. ]
Chicks?
[ Whatever it meant, it's lost to the fact that Chloe had just asked her if she'd done more than just look at Kristoff. The implications it held made her extremely flustered and her mind raced through how to even answer that.
There were few people back in Arendelle that spoke so openly about the physical act of love between a man and a woman, and it was pretty frowned upon to get too close before marriage. She'd been allowed more privacy with Kristoff than she probably would have been if her father was around.
The way her eyes move quickly as if trying to figure out where to actually look and the creeping blush make obvious that she has. On one hand this place isn't home, but keeping intimacy hidden is pretty ingrained in her, even though she does tend to kiss him quite openly and with enough passion to make some onlookers blush. ]
I...well...we...I mean...there's marriage to think about...and certain risks.
[ She swallows and looks down at her hands, her voice quiet as she tentatively squeaks out. ] Clothes have stayed on. [ Mostly. ] Mostly. [ Whoops, she'd added that out loud. ]
[ She's not even gonna bother trying to explain why chicks means women, that would leave them here all day, so she instead focuses in on the mostly here. Chloe is absolutely sure that she had no intention of saying that out loud, but she's not letting her off the hook for a moment. ]
Nice.
[ She kicks her feet down from the table, leaning forward like she's discussing some Big Secret with Anna instead of just... sex. Mostly because she can tell it's a big deal to her. ]
The whole 'wait til marriage' schtick is totally overrated, y'know. Especially since you can't get knocked up here. [ Wait. ] It means pregnant. So if that's all that's keeping "mostly on" from being "entirely off"...
[ She's not really sure why women would be referred to barnyard animals, let alone cute tiny baby ones and it doesn't quite sound appealing to her, but she only gives a nod with a look of consideration before letting that go. She's not sure she wants to know.
However, she should also not want to hear what Chloe has to say, but she kind of does. Anna has always appreciated secret type conversations, and this one feels so pleasantly dirty that it's got her curiosity piqued. It's like she's doing something fun that she knows she shouldn't do, but is anyway.
So when she hears that you can't get pregnant, she can't help but lean in, her eyes wide with curiosity. ]
Wait...you can't?
[ And that alone shows well enough that it's a big factor. Well, the biggest one on top of expectations, societal pressures, and the idea that somehow virginity is this magical experience that should be reserved for consummating a marriage. ]
Nnnope. Trust me. I mean, you can take birth control just in case if you wanna, and normally I'd say you should totally use condoms because you can definitely still get sick here, buuuuut given that you and the blond Viking over there are virgins, that shouldn't really be an issue.
[ She shrugs her shoulders, knowing full well that everything she just said might still go over her head, but she's sure the general message got across just fine. Anna's a smart woman. She's got this. ]
Not that you gotta. It's up to you. I'm just sayin' if you wanted, you could.
Oh, he's not a viking, just an ice harvester. Vikings are warriors, and they came long before our time, or well mostly, and from farther North than us.
[ While Anna was definitely a smart woman, there was very little about what Chloe had said that she understood. However, due to the curious nature about the "mysterious" little spoken about thing called sex she was more intrigued than she probably should be.
But wait wait...get sick? Sex can make you sick?? And condoms? What are those? And you can control birth? How, is that even possible? Is it those condom things?
She glances up quickly from Kristoff to Chloe and back again several times, the blush growing deeper. She knows the basics and she's been close to Kristoff to know some of the feelings it invokes, but she had no idea it was so intricate. To ask or not to ask...
She might be smart, but she also used to drive her tutors nuts with the barrage of questions she'd ask about every little new piece of information. Anna wanted to know, so she had to ask. Unlike with her tutors though she leans in, asking her questions in a hushed whisper. ]
I...I've never heard of a condom before and how do you control birth? And you can get sick from it? I've heard it hurts but not that you can get sick? That sounds terrible!
[ She's suddenly not even sure they should... but what they have done has felt so good and she loves him so much. She's not even aware she's wringing her hands, and she suddenly has a deep desire to collapse into Elsa's arms and hide. ]
Edited 2020-10-05 17:09 (UTC)
cw for every sexual thing you can think about ig?????
[ The Viking thing had caused her to chuckle, but it was one that died as Anna went off on her anxiety whispering. Ahhh crap.
She holds up her hands somewhere around "it hurts" and goes to put them on her shoulders, squeezing them tightly. ]
Whoa. Slow your roll there, Anna. None of this is terrible, it's just stuff you... obviously were not told. [ She knows people definitely were aware that sex could make you sick by the 1850s and that condoms in some kind of weak form were around, but she was not at all surprised that a sheltered Queen had no idea about any of it. ] Let's just... take this one step at a time, okay?
[ She takes a deep breath, hoping that it will help Anna to do the same. ]
I said you don't have to worry about getting sick or using condoms. There are illnesses that can be passed from person to person from sharing fluids from the body. Usually blood, but also— [ She pauses, trying to figure out what word to use, because she doubts Anna knows any of them. ] The stuff that a guy spills in you...? You know what that is, right? [ God she hopes so. ] Sometimes when you have sex with more than one person, one of those people can be sick, and if you aren't using a condom, you can catch it because of that. You haven't had sex with anyone else, I assume Kristoff hasn't either, which means you're both not gonna be sick. Worry solved.
A condom is just this stretchy covering that a guy can put over his uh— [ Don't say dick, Chloe. Don't. Say. Dick. ] —penis and it basically stops anything from spilling inside you. That's it. It's real simple, it helps to stop pregnancy, and it helps stop those sicknesses from spreading. Since you can't get pregnant here and you aren't sick, neither of you has to worry about it. You follow?
[ She moves her hands from Anna's shoulders down to her hands, forcing them apart so she can hold on to them. ]
Most importantly? Sex should not hurt. It might be a little uncomfortable the first time, but if it really hurts, then something is wrong and you should stop. I know that they said it was normal back when you're from, but it isn't. If he cares about you and wants to make you feel good, he'll go slow, and it'll feel good.
[ That was definitely the truth of it; Anna was sheltered. She'd been only five years old when her parents had shut the gate and she hadn't exactly had much freedom before that. It wasn't until she was eighteen that she'd even gotten to really see any of the world around her and what she had learned hadn't involved much about the marital bed.
What little she'd learned had been from books, and the physician who had answered some of the questions she'd asked from reading the vague information in books. That and she had figured out a few things with Kristoff, since he knew more than she did. She really should have asked the trolls, they seemed to know so much about humans and they were the source of Kristoff's knowledge. With things getting more intense between them, she understood a few things on a physical level, but she was going to need a learning curve.
She doesn't look up at Chloe until she takes her hands and then it's only briefly, but she is listening. The way Chloe talks about it is so open and she has so much information, Anna is almost envious. Here she is about to become a wife and she just doesn't have the same knowledge. So despite the embarrassment she wants to listen and for once she doesn't interrupt. At least she can calm down about illness and the pregnancy thing. ]
I...I follow. And that's...that's good to know. Back home people act like it's something to be hidden. Some girls don't know much about it until they are with their husbands in bed. You seem so open about it.
[ So without pregnancy and illness an issue, that leaves just more questions about other things. ]
As for the pain, I mean... [ She glances up at Kristoff, before looking back to Chloe. ] I know some of it does feel good, and he...he definitely wants to make me feel good. But, he's... [ She leans in close to whisper. ] He's not...small, and well...I am.
Sex is pretty much the most talked about thing ever back home. There's like a bajillion things you can read about it or watch about it or whatever. The real trick is sorting out what's bullshit from what's fact. And I... did not do that for a very long time, so I'm gonna stop you from making my same mistakes.
[ That was probably the most honest she's ever been about her own sexual experiences in her life. ]
Look, it doesn't matter what his... size is, there are ways to adjust. I'm telling you. I thought it was supposed to hurt my first time too and because everyone told me that was normal, I didn't realize that how painful it was was actually really fucked up. You don't need to suffer through it. If something genuinely hurts, you tell him to stop.
[ She lets go of her hands finally, leaning back a little in her chair. ]
I'll get you some books, if you want. With like... tips and info or whatever. They'll probably explain it with a lot more neutral language than I can. I know I'm, like, a walking pop culture reference that is way ahead of your time.
[ All she was gathering from the future was that things were extremely different and it was a strange mix of good and bad. It was probably a good thing people talked more about sex, but she wondered if there was too much openness. No matter, she appreciated the honesty from Chloe. ]
That's one thing I don't have to worry about from him. If he so much as sees me wince, he'll stop immediately.
[ She doesn't understand what Chloe means by 'pop culture' but she can assume it has something to do with the way she puts things because she definitely understand the 'reference' part. ]
For real? [ It's kind of sad that even after all this time, Chloe's still shocked by men who give a shit about women feel in bed. In fairness, she's pretty sure most of the sex she's had here wasn't focused on whether or not she was feeling it either, though. ] Jeez, you snagged a rare gem, then.
[ She tries to remember what all those old sex books her mom had initially "accidentally" left out for her to find had said about it. She's sure the Joy of Sex or whatever else is probably the most up to date thing she'd really find in this town. ]
Mmm, mostly like... how to make it more comfortable, different kinds of lead up activities you can do, positions that might work better than others... Basic stuff like that. There's usually a pretty good intro to how it all works in general, too. In case you weren't given the details on, y'know, the whole shebang.
[ She blinks a couple of times. It should be the way men are, not a rarity. ]
You know, Kristoff has alluded to as much. He said he doesn't like the way some men talk about women. I mean, the wives in Arendelle seem happy, but they are very busy and we don't talk about sex, so I suppose I don't know for certain. All I know is, it won't be that for us.
[ She glances over towards Kristoff as she talks about positions, but only for a moment before realizing her thoughts are probably loud enough for Chloe to hear. ]
...I know a little about the lead up activities. It's...getting harder to...stick to those.
He's right to not like it. Maybe it's different in Arendelle, but most men in my world are complete garbage. I know the first dude I slept with certainly didn't give a shit. They're more concerned with getting their dicks wet most of the time. [ ....... God dammit, Chloe. ]
But it's... good. That you guys care about each other that much. It'll make it that much better when you finally cave. [ Which it sure sounds like Anna is wanting. She gives her a nudge with her elbow. ] It's just a dream world, right? What's the harm?
[ Anna's eyes widen, she actually knows what that is, but she's never heard it used much. The way Chloe phrases it, is something Anna can grasp and she's shocked by the phrasing. The men in Anna's life weren't so forward about such things. To her experience, they were all quite polite about it. ]
Yeeeesss. I have heard they like it...
[ Thankfully Anna is not easily offended by things and can allow it to roll off her shoulders. The peer pressure though is both received with welcome and hesitancy. ]
But waiting...I mean, giving in to temptation may prevent the wedding night from being...well...magical. [ She'd always been told how special a wedding night was. ]
[ Chloe frowns a little in thought. She's never been very romantic or even thought about that sort of tradition, but she guesses that it would not just be the norm in her world, it would be downright expected. ]
Look, I never plan on getting married so maybe my opinion is shit, but I think your wedding night isn't gonna be any more or less special if you sleep together before or after it. It's supposed to be about love, right? And that feeling... It just gets stronger every time you get to be with someone like that.
[ She shrugs, feeling a blush starting at her nose that she tries desperately to keep from spreading. Thinking about Max and the intimacy she'd had with her had that outcome usually and it was hard to not when she was talking about this particular kind of thing. ]
I'm not sayin' you gotta do anything, that's on you two and what you feel is right. But don't let some arbitrary rules made up be a bunch of power hungry men limit your possibilities.
See? You're picking up on the holes in the scheme already.
[ The second question gets a laugh out of her, forgetting that those sorts of things might come as a surprise. ]
Stupid rules are almost always the fault of men. Think about it; when a woman has a kid, everyone automatically knows it's hers, right? So the best way to keep track of a family should be through the mother's family line. But men wanted to be in charge of property and laws and all this other shit, so they decided it was better to trace it down through their families. The only way they can do that is if they can cut down the chances of a baby being some other dude's. Which meeeeans... no sex until you belong to one person.
[ Anna is quiet for awhile, taking in what Chloe is saying. These are ideas that she's not necessarily ever thought of, at least not in any great detail, but as a strong woman and a Queen with a long lineage, the concepts sink in to her.
She swallows as her head is full of the contradictions and she brings a finger up to her mouth to chew at her nail. Her head is a spiral into situations and ideas that are less than fair and it's a trip to consider them. She finally frees her finger and looks back at Chloe. ]
I...never thought about it that way. But it makes sense. From the time I was born, I was raised to know my father's history and the pure bloodline I descended from. My mother comes from another very old family, but she hid her lineage; and she kind of had to. But that's another story. Either way, my father was in charge. I imagine they would have wanted a boy, but Elsa and I were never considered less as far as I know.
You know, another thing is that...when I was younger, I met this guy and sort of thought it was immediately true love, so I kind of immediately got engaged to him...like...that night. My sister didn't like the idea of that and in an argument her ice powers kind of went crazy and she froze over all of Arendelle in an eternal winter. I went up the mountain to save her, and I left my fiance in charge.
I told you that whole frozen heart thing, but anyway, long story short Kristoff got me back to the castle thinking Hans could cure me. But he showed his true colors and left me to...die.
[ Her eyes go empty for a second as she remembers the situation, but she shakes her head and goes on. ]
My point is that, I found out after everything that he'd gone to a group of dignitaries and royals, convinced them I was dead and told them we'd said our wedding vows. And they allowed him to take over! They allowed him to sentence my sister to death. They allowed him to rise to our throne and take control. They never even doubted his claim or came to check on me. They just handed him the power as if Elsa and I didn't matter at all.
[ She tentatively glances up at Chloe. ] Is that...is that kind of what you are talking about?
[ Chloe had, at first, been pretty proud of her for making the connection by using the history of her mom and dad. The whole getting engaged first thing she remembered her sharing before, but the details, the result of it... That was new.
It was probably for the best Hans wasn't in Deerington at the moment, because the look on her face was probably one of somebody ready to go and stab a bitch. Her jaw is tight and her fist that she had at some point gone to lean her mouth against was clenched hard enough to make her knuckles white because fuck these guys. Hans for being a clear as shit sociopath, but also the men just willing to hand over everything to him at the drop of a hat.
Don't get hooked by men devoid of emotion thinking they could just go around killing women to get what they wanted. You can do this. ]
Yeah. That's what I'm talking about.
[ Wow her voice is a little tight. She clears her throat, letting her hand fall back at her side and taking a deep breath. ]
I'm sorry that happened. Men can be real garbage, especially when they want power.
[ Anna knew on more than one level what it meant to be less than someone else. She'd often wondered what he role was in her parent's life, in Elsa's life, in Arendelle's life. Of course she had her place now, but those feelings of inadequacy had left their mark. She still had very bad dreams about Hans, and the heavy burden of feeling completely and utterly unloved and forgotten.
She didn't let those wounds or fears define her, but it was easy enough to see where the line was drawn between men and women. Arendelle in all its peaceful hospitality and bounty was not free from it.
The conversation made Anna realize how much harder she might have to fight to be taken seriously. And would they turn to Kristoff when she was pregnant and less capable of handling all the details. He was certainly being trained for that. Thankfully he was not power hungry and he'd never defy or go against her judgment. ]
Well, they have their regrets. Elsa cut off trade with certain nations and Hans was severely punished, so others nations know to take us seriously.
[ She looked over at her hardworking and good hearted fiance, the future King of Arendelle. ]
Thankfully, for all the trouble, I found myself one of the best. He always lets me lead. When we do have children, if I'm forced to bedrest or caring for a newborn, he'll let me rule from bed if need be. He's going to be a good King.
And for what you said about children, it's silly to care so much about lineage. The royal bloodline that my grandfather cared so much about was directly changed when my father married my mother, who was not only a commoner but from a bloodline that my grandfather despised. Kristoff is a commoner too, and so our children will be even less from the royal line of Arendelle and more from its commoners. I think that's a good thing.
[ She lets out a sigh. ] I hate to think I'm saving myself to fit into a child bearing expectation. Though, even my sister expected I'd be the one to have heirs to the throne, because she flat out refused the court! But really, if two people are in love, they should trust each other enough to know any children who cone from them are their own.
[ Chloe's quiet for a good moment. There's an envy in being able to punish the people who hurt you. That Elsa and Anna could do something to make Hans regret it, to make the dignitaries grovel, and that she got some kind of justice from it all. She hates that it makes her jealous, but how could it not? Her hand absent-mindedly rests against her stomach, feeling the small knot of scar tissue just below her rib cage.
It must be nice. But she doesn't know how to say that without sounding like a bitch, and if there's one thing Chloe has learned here, it's that taking out her own darkness on others doesn't help anything at all. It just makes everything worse. ]
Sounds like you'll get your happy ending then.
[ It comes out a little quieter than she wants it to, her throat feeling tight. How did they get here again? ]

cw for every sexual thing you can think about ig?????

I know I'm, like, a walking pop culture reference that is way ahead of your time.
no subject
That's one thing I don't have to worry about from him. If he so much as sees me wince, he'll stop immediately.
[ She doesn't understand what Chloe means by 'pop culture' but she can assume it has something to do with the way she puts things because she definitely understand the 'reference' part. ]
Thank you. That would be...good.
Uh...what kinds of tips do they give?

[ She tries to remember what all those old sex books her mom had initially "accidentally" left out for her to find had said about it. She's sure the Joy of Sex or whatever else is probably the most up to date thing she'd really find in this town. ]
Mmm, mostly like... how to make it more comfortable, different kinds of lead up activities you can do, positions that might work better than others... Basic stuff like that. There's usually a pretty good intro to how it all works in general, too. In case you weren't given the details on, y'know, the whole shebang.

But it's... good. That you guys care about each other that much. It'll make it that much better when you finally cave. [ Which it sure sounds like Anna is wanting. She gives her a nudge with her elbow. ] It's just a dream world, right? What's the harm?
no subject
no subject
But don't let some arbitrary rules made up be a bunch of power hungry men limit your possibilities.
no subject
I guess it does seem kind of weird, I mean if the wedding night is the most special time of all, then...what about after?
[ She wasn't quite sure what power hungry men had to do with it. ]
It's men's fault we have to wait to the wedding night?
no subject
[ The second question gets a laugh out of her, forgetting that those sorts of things might come as a surprise. ]
Stupid rules are almost always the fault of men. Think about it; when a woman has a kid, everyone automatically knows it's hers, right? So the best way to keep track of a family should be through the mother's family line. But men wanted to be in charge of property and laws and all this other shit, so they decided it was better to trace it down through their families. The only way they can do that is if they can cut down the chances of a baby being some other dude's. Which meeeeans... no sex until you belong to one person.
Get it?

] Is that...is that kind of what you are talking about?
no subject
Men can be real garbage, especially when they want power.
no subject

You seem like you deserve it.
