[ Chloe is absolutely not surprised that Anna's house is so fucking big. She's a princess. Of course she'd end up on Princess Drive with a Princess Sized Mansion that looks like it could house half the town for a sleepover. She did spend a couple of minutes staring up at the place though, admiring the architecture and also hating that it exists because fuck rich people wasted their money on so many things.
Shaking her head, she makes her way inside like Anna had told her to do anytime she wanted, looking around for the human ball of sunshine and finding all the common rooms empty. Wouldn't it be her luck to show up while they were out? She had texted, but that had been like an hour ago. She's not very good at knowing how to show up anywhere in a timely manner.
She finally spots her out by the pool through a set of large glass doors and goes to push them open, bag slung over her shoulder. Her steps slow significantly when she notices she's not paying attention, head tilting before she follows her gaze to see what's caught her interest.
Seeing Kristoff not too far away, busy working on converting some structure into a proper barn. It being the middle of one of the warmer days September had given them, she's not surprised to see that he's opted for much less shirt than she had seen him in thus far. Chloe couldn't help but smirk.
She makes sure to drop herself loudly into the chair next to Anna, immediately crossing one leg over the other and resting her elbow on her knee, her chin in her hand. ]
[ The house meant little to Anna. She would have been just as happy in a small shack if Kristoff was there. What was important to her was her family, and though two of them were missing it just made her hold tighter to what she did have.
The day was extremely warm, warmer than she'd even expect it in Arendelle this time of year. Her own dresses mostly felt pretty heavy, but luckily she had one of two lighter ones to choose from. She was almost envious of people like Chloe, who looked pretty cool in their outfits, modern as they were.
She and Kristoff had taken the afternoon hot, too tired of sweating over boiling pots. To be fair, Anna really wasn't used to work like that and she was desperate for the break. And if it came with the wonderful view of watching Kristoff work on Sven's barn, well that was just the icing on the cake.
Being caught by someone while staring at her future husband was definitely an embarrassing thing though, and her cheeks flushed as she jumped a bit and realized that now she had an audience. ]
Oh! Chloe! It's just you. Obvious about what? Oh wait...where are my manners. Hi! Please sit down. But seriously? Obvious about what?
[ Despite the luxury of being able to do the opposite, Chloe still ended up wearing far more covering clothing that she had back home. She'd braved shorts for today, the heavy scars on her legs apparently not feeling quite as embarrassing as the rest of them, but she still wore a hoodie pulled over her tanktop, making sure to keep it zipped up to the neck. It didn't hide the ones that creeped up her throat or the ones on her face, but at least it kept her torso covered.
She's chuckling already at the way that Anna startles, shifting in her seat to kick her feet up onto the poolside table, looking over to Kristoff for a moment with her brow arched, before her gaze moves back to the princess beside her. ]
Your thirst, girl. [ There's a moment where she remembers she'll probably have no idea what it means. ] In the 21st century, we'd say you're staring at your boy like he's the only drink of water around.
[ Anna finds the way Chloe talks a little confusing. She has all these words for things that are words Anna knows well, but she uses them in ways that Anna doesn't fully understand. It's as if she's talking in constant metaphor and Anna has to think a bit harder to figure out what she might mean by something. It can be a little embarrassing to feel lost in the language of things and she suddenly has a new appreciation for how Kristoff feels with his education so much different than her own. She silently decides she owes him an apology later.
Thankfully Chloe also seems to catch her up on the lingo regularly, but even her explanations aren't always things she fully grasps. For a moment she wonders why she'd be staring at Kristoff like he was a drink of water. At least her brain works in some obscure ways and as she puts together "thirst" and "only drink of water" a blush crawls over her as she realizes what she might mean by that.
And when she becomes sure what Chloe is insinuating, her eyes widen and she looks completely embarrassed and flustered. ]
Oh. Oh! Uh...maybe...yeah. I mean he's...gorgeous, so it's uhm...easy to look at him. [ And think about how much she wishes they were already married, because propriety is the only thing stopping her and even that's only being held back by a thread at this point. ]
[ She grins when Anna finally catches up, clearly amused by the way that she reacts to it. She remembers the days when she used to get flustered by even the slightest implications towards sex. A time of innocence... That was broken very, very quickly, unfortunately. ]
Yeah, I guess he does have that uh... aesthetic appeal a lot of chicks are into.
[ ........... How had she ever thought she was straight? ]
[ Kristoff had promised Shiro he'd confront this whole thing head on. The Space Man had made a few good points, even if he was pretty sure that he was projecting some of his own relationship issues on to theirs. It didn't take away from the fact that Anna really could think he resented her for anything he'd had to give up.
He can't tell if it's late or not since it's always dark these days, but they're both home and in the same space, and neither of them is bleeding or stressed, so this seems like a good a time as any. He clears his throat, trying to make his voice sound as easy going as possible so that she wouldn't get worried. ]
[ Anna was taking a quiet moment and sitting in the houses's library. The library was one of her favorite places back home and so it was a place in this house that she had filled with candles, lanterns, and incense. She feels calm, buried in a book, but as soon as Kristoff calls her attention she glances up.
He has the look on his face of it being important, so she sits up on the sofa, tagging her book and putting it aside. Then she pats the seat next to her. ]
[ He nodded as he went to take the seat beside her, his hand reaching out to lay on top of hers once he'd settled. ]
I'm fine. I promise.
[ He actually sounded like he meant it too, rather than the reassuring words given to avoid talking about his own issues. ]
I've just been thinking about things lately. Ever since you started helping me get ice and water to people. When we were talking about it, you brought up my giving up ice harvesting in order to be king. I guess I've been wondering if that's... been on your mind or worried you in some way.
[ Someone's communication skills are clearly improving here, aw yeah. ]
[ The warmth of his hand on hers sends a wave of warmth and affection through her.
It's also reassuring to hear it's all fine and she offers a smile.
But then he brings up the ice harvesting and the topic of what he'll be giving up to become King and rule by her side. It is something that she's thought about and hasn't been able to bring attention to. And it's one reason she's trying so hard to do what she can to meet his needs here.
The sideways glance suggests she's been caught in her worries, but she quickly looks back. ]
Maybe a little. Marrying a princess offers you a lot more freedom. I've seen you as an ice harvester and I've seen you here already thriving in this little business of yours. I'm so proud of you. I don't want to be the reason you don't get to do what you love.
[ He had sent that message off to Kristoff but he's well aware that was a team effort. There's still some tangible guilt/appreciation for it after what he had said to Anna but well...he's nothing if not honest to a fault.
Even if he's an asshole. So he sends a message to Anna; ]
Hey so.
I got that gift from you and Kristoff. You didn't have to but thanks.
And uh....
I am sorry for being a major dick to you. You didn't deserve it and I know got to work on not being so...judgey and assholeish.
And thank you, for your apology. I know that's never an easy thing to do.
As I said before, I don't know your circumstances, but I understand how difficult it is to break old habits. I won't hold the slip ups against you, I can promise you that. And if I say something that offends you, you can be honest with me as well.
I can understand that, we do all kinds of things when we feel like we have to protect ourselves. My sister shut herself behind a door. You just do that a bit more...metaphorically.
Definitely better to be friends than hate each other.
I don't think Kristoff is in the habit of chucking people down holes just because they don't like me, but I suppose he does feel protective of my feelings. The thing about him though is that he trusts me to handle my own issues.
[ He's pretty sure he's probably supposed to have these kinds of conversations in person, but he's already feeling... emotionally overwhelmed as it is, so the device ends up being easier. Plus, if the whole nagging feeling turns into Anna being angry, he's pretty sure he can handle it way easier from a distance.
Confrontation is never going to be his strong suit. Ugh.
[ Anna had all the minutes in the world these days. It was something that wasn't sitting well with her at all and she was constantly left trying to figure out what she should do with her time.
His tone gives her pause, but whatever it is, she's there for him.]
[ Okay, she isn't dumb, she can recognize his concern. Her eyes start to mirror that concern and her heart picks up speed a little. She knows from experience that if she starts things with: 'It's nothing bad', she's at least worried she did something wrong.
Either way, he has her full attention and she gives a small nod at the memory. ]
[ He’s stupidly excited to figure out how to use these so of course he’s gonna send one to her first. He just has to... look at a reference sheet. And try and figure out how to use the fancy keys. So it takes him about ten minutes just to send this. ]
[On Christmas Day, Anna will recieve a carefully wrapped box contaning pretty necklace with a carefully concealed blade. With it is a note:]
Merry Christmas, Anna. I hope you like it, the blade probably won't do a WHOLE lot, but it might be useful in a pinch, especially here! And when you don't need to stab monsters in the eye, it can be a nice piece of jewellery. Win win!
